NNHMN – Cold Like Steel

NNHMN is a Berlin-based dark electronic duo consisting of Lee Margot and Michal Laudarg. “Cold Like Steel” is the opening marker for the upcoming “Opera of Lust and the Art of Sorrow Part 2,” and it announces that chapter with precision.

The song opens with a bass arp pattern that persists throughout and anchors everything above it. Lee Margot’s vocal direction gives the track a dreamlike quality, sitting above the pads and strings in a way that deepens the hypnotic pull rather than cutting through it. The result lands somewhere between atmosphere and dancefloor without fully committing to either, and that tension is exactly where the track finds its power.

The imagery the band describes is apt. A nocturnal road trip through an empty city, loosely inspired by the visual world of Nicolas Winding Refn. The aesthetic is there in the production: controlled, cool, and precise. “Cold like steel, your heart is hiding” is the lyrical center and it lands as observation rather than drama. That restraint is what makes it stick.

Music and composition by NNHMN, lyrics by Lee Margot, mixed and mastered by Michal Laudarg. Released on K-Dreams Records.

A Berlin hometown show is scheduled for October 31, 2026 at Festsaal Kreuzberg. A fitting venue for a track like this.
