Creux Lies – Jubilate
Creux Lies is a post-punk quartet from Sacramento, California. “Jubilate” is a new single released May 21, 2026, mixed, engineered, and mastered by Pat Hills at Earthtone Studios.
The bassline that opens the track is the first thing that lands and it sets the tone immediately. Dark, powerful, and driving. The guitar work is as strong as it has ever been from this band, and Ean Clevenger’s vocals carry the weight the song demands.
The song is not without its tensions. The bridge and chorus are exceptional. The word jubilate repeated like a chant against the accumulating pressure of rumination is genuinely effective. The verses, however, shed much of the energy the opening establishes, and is later continued during the chorus. The contrast works thematically but leaves the verses feeling slightly underserved relative to the peaks around them.
Creux Lies have built a sound that sits at the intersection of classic post-punk and modern darkwave without being derivative of either. Comparisons to The Cure are perhaps inevitable, but not entirely inaccurate. Clevenger’s vocal approach carries a different kind of intensity than the obvious reference point. The band’s production instincts are sharp and the emotional architecture of their songs is consistently well-constructed.
“Jubilate” is another strong entry from one of the more compelling acts in the current scene.
