Frozen Plasma – Warmongers (2026)
Revisiting old classics is always a difficult challenge. Frozen Plasma’s “Warmongers” is one of the most successful and controversial tracks in the futurepop canon, originally written as a sharp, ironic protest against the Iraq War before becoming the band’s biggest club anthem. More than two decades later, the band have returned to it with a 2026 rework, driven by what they describe as “an overwhelming sense of urgency, bordering on despair” at a world that still refuses to learn.
The question the rework raises is who it is for. The most significant change is the introduction of chants and voice overs that were not present in the original. They make the song different, but not necessarily better. The mix is considerably cleaner, which brings clarity to the bassline, though it also strips away some of the angry grit that gave the original its edge. Whether that grit was lost in the rework or simply submerged by the cleaner production is genuinely difficult to say.
Fans of the original are unlikely to favor the updated version, and that may well be the point. “Warmongers 2026” reads as an attempt to introduce the track to a new or younger audience, or to recapture algorithmic traction in an era where that matters more than it once did. If so, it is hard to fault the band for trying. Regardless, the urgency behind the decision is real and the sentiment is warranted.
The updated version falls short of the original; however, we believe that it will find a home amongst fans regardless.
