Buzz Kull – Deep Hate
Marc Dwyer has been at this since 2012, and Deep Hate shows Marc Dwyer has been at this since 2012, and Deep Hate shows no signs of the momentum slowing. Four original tracks and four remixes, out on Heartworm Press.
The originals are tight. “Black Gate” opens with an upbeat, high energy mood and the bassline sound design is immediately memorable. The drumkit selection on “Just A Memory” is excellent, and Dwyer’s vocal styling sits perfectly over the song’s arp pattern.
The remix selection is where the EP becomes genuinely interesting. Kontravoid takes “In The Cut” and adds his signature drumkit-driven flair to the track. Spike Hellis remixes “Human Force” and while we enjoy the original significantly more, we appreciate their take on it. The Cold Cave rework of “Just A Memory” is the standout of the remixes and a highlight on the release as a whole. Raymond Watts of PIG stretches “Black Gate” into something entirely different. The PIG remix is not for us, but it’s surely for someone out there.
Four remixers, four different directions, all finding something worth pulling at in the original material. That’s a good sign for where Buzz Kull sits right now.
