NITE x Dead On A Sunday – Last Chance

NITE needs little introduction at this point. The Dallas twin duo of Myles and Kyle Mendes have been one of the more consistent acts in the darkwave and post-punk space since 2013, and their self-titled fifth album established them firmly in the conversation. Dead On A Sunday is the project of Denver vocalist and producer Ross Ryan, blending goth-adjacent rock, darkwave, and post-punk into something that has built a serious following on its own terms. Two acts with strong individual identities. The question with any collaboration is whether the sum justifies the parts.

It does here.

“Last Chance” is built around guitar work that earns its place in the mix and synthesized arp patterns whose sound design gives the track a nostalgic retro quality without losing a contemporary edge. That balance is harder to pull off than it sounds. The chorus is immediate and catchy without sacrificing the atmosphere the rest of the track establishes.

The lyrics move through longing and displacement with the kind of directness that suits both projects. Wandering city streets, searching for something that may not be findable, the shadow’s hum and its empty breath. The emotional register is consistent throughout and the two acts share enough sonic DNA that the collaboration feels natural rather than forced.

A double sided 7” on clear vinyl is available alongside the digital release. Worth grabbing.
