Frozen Plasma – Silberlicht

Frozen Plasma is a German futurepop duo consisting of Felix Marc and Vasi Vallis, active since the early 2000s and now signed to darkTunes Music Group. “Silberlicht” is a new single releasing May 15, 2026.

The press release speaks of breaking away from the rigid formulas of international club anthems and melancholic futurepop, calling this German synth-pop reimagined. We would not go that far, but that is not a criticism.

What we hear is Frozen Plasma doing what Frozen Plasma does well: polished synthesis work, melodic structure with genuine staying power, and Felix’s vocals evoking the same emotions his vocals always do. The chorus lands. The production is confident. It holds up.

Vasi’s sound design remains impeccable. The production is precise and clean, built around the kind of virtual analog and digital synthesis that has always defined the project’s sound and the Futurepop genre as a whole. If there is a shift here it is subtle enough that we would not have noticed it without the press release pointing at it. The specific mention of Electropop and a conscious departure from Futurepop reads less like something the music is doing and more like something the duo wants to be dissociated from.

Genres are largely arbitrary though, and it’s pointless to even debate the topic. We almost regret even focusing on that aspect of the press release, because the song is genuinely good, and “Silberlicht” is legitimately one of our favorite Frozen Plasma tracks in a catalog of brilliant tracks.
