2DCAT – Never Enough
2DCAT is a dark synthpop duo based in Washington D.C. HAEZL is an acclaimed opera singer who has shared stages with Patti LaBelle, Cynthia Erivo, and Renée Fleming. Johan designs and builds most of the synthesizers the duo performs with. That combination of classical vocal training and hardware engineering gives 2DCAT a fairly unique sound that is genuinely difficult to place alongside anyone else in the scene.
“Never Enough” opens with a rhythmic arp pattern and percussion that establishes a hypnotic groove immediately. The construction is patient and deliberate, pulling the listener in before the vocals arrive. HAEZL’s voice is, as always, powerful and precise, sitting above the instrumentation with the kind of control that comes from serious training.
The chorus is where the song fully reveals itself. The energy kicks up and shifts direction, the vocals become more urgent, and the track moves into something more immediate and memorable. The contrast between the measured verse, bridge, and the charged chorus is what gives the song its staying power.
Lyrically the song moves through dissociation, escape, and the fragile sanctuary of inner life. “Deeper down we hide / Sometimes we feel like it’s never enough.” The emotional register is consistent throughout and the production serves it without overwhelming it.
